Highlights from the Environmental Smart Card Technology and Products Conference

Financial payment cards made from environmentally-friendly materials are fast becoming an exciting and inevitable evolution in the Fintech sector. With the largest payment card schemes like Mastercard, Visa and UnionPay International pledging to use all recycled cards within the next two decades, financial sectors across the globe are accelerating their efforts in adopting sustainable materials in their payment cards.

As a world leader in secure payment products, Goldpac has been developing and advocating the use of payment cards produced from environmentally-friendly materials since 2008. Amidst the surge in demand for eco-cards worldwide, Goldpac along with its outstanding partners in the smart card industry are more committed than ever to take action in building a new low-carbon ecosystem.

With this collective vision, the “Environmental Smart Card Technology & Products Conference” was held on 31st August 2023 by Goldpac to bring together executives from leading suppliers in the smart card industry and subject matter experts from around the world.

The conference chaired by Wu Siqiang, Executive Director and COO of Goldpac Group, encompassed discussions on methods of reducing carbon emissions and offering guests invaluable advice on strategies for green and low-carbon ecological advancements. Here are some of the key takeaways from the event:

A technical analysis and sharing from multiple perspectives on how to improve on the research and applications of low-carbon and eco-friendly materials in the production process by Mr. Bian Guangming, Chief Technical Engineer of Card Base, and Mr. Marco Balatti, Marketing & Sales Manager from Spica.

Our conference was also attended by our special guest, Professor Sun Zhicheng from Beijing Institute of Graphic Communication, who enlightened us on the “Development and Applications of Functional Water-based Ink & Soft Light Emitting Devices”.

He expressed that a pressing problem which the traditional printing industry needs to solve is finding ways to improve efficiency of resource utilisation under the carbon peaking and neutralisation strategy. Greening, digitalisation, and integration is the inevitable trend for the future of printing. Research towards functional printing materials will help to accelerate the realisation of “sustainable, green, low-carbon economy”.

This conference adopted a hybrid, online and offline approach, mixing knowledge-based seminars with live tours, offering delegates many opportunities for interaction and a platform for exchanging thoughts. At Goldpac’s personalisation bureau, our staff elaborated on the highly-efficient management of our eco-card production, the process of low-carbon material manufacturing; the low-carbon, full cycle digitalisation platform; and other low-carbon smart card solutions. The tour rounded off at the digital exhibition hall where delegates had more in-depth discussions on the state-of-the-art technology implemented on our low-carbon card series.

After a day of fascinating discussions and conversations from broad concepts to intricate details, the room was humming with a common unanimity and vision for a sustainable implementation of smart card materials, printing, adhesion, and other value-adding technologies. Setting off a new era of low-carbon smart-card production through the strengthening and unification of collaboration between members of the supply chain.

To conclude the conference, Goldpac’s Chairman of the Board, Mr David Lu proposed the company of vision of “going green and replacing products in five years” with environmental solutions.
